Martin Brundle may be best known to Formula 1 fans as the voice of the sport, thanks to an award-winning broadcasting career spanning more than two decades, but his experience goes far beyond commentary. An accomplished Formula 1 driver, World Sportscar Champion and senior figure in British motorsport, Martin is renowned for his storytelling, bringing drama, insight, and nuance of elite motorsport to audiences worldwide.

  • F1 and Racing Career: Martin competed in British Formula 3 in 1983, engaging in a memorable championship duel with Ayrton Senna. Making his Formula 1 debut in 1984, he then went on to drive for Tyrrell, Zakspeed, Brabham, Benetton, Ligier, McLaren and Jordan. Scoring nine podium finishes and achieving notable results in a highly competitive era. In 1992, Martin made a one-off appearance for Benetton, sharing the garage with one of F1's all-time greats, Michael Schumacher. Known for his technical feedback and adaptability, Brundle built a reputation as a highly skilled and respected driver throughout his F1 career.
  • World Sportscar & Endurance Racing: Winning the 1988 World Sportscar Championship with Jaguar, including the Daytona 24 Hours and then the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1990. These achievements highlighted Martin’s adaptability across racing disciplines and reinforced the racecraft and strategic insight that would later inform his F1 commentary career.
  • Broadcasting Career: Martin joined ITV Sport in 1997, teaming up with the legendary Murray Walker to provide live Formula 1 commentary. After 12 seasons at ITV, he moved to the BBC, where he continued to deliver insightful race analysis, interviews and expert commentary that brought the sport to life for millions of viewers. Since 2012, Martin has been a leading voice for Sky Sports F1, broadcasting to audiences around the world. He is renowned for his grid walk interviews, offering exclusive, behind-the-scenes access and engaging storytelling that captures the personalities, tension and strategy of Formula 1. Making him one of the sport’s most respected and recognised commentators.
  • Awards & Recognition: Winner of six Royal Television Society awards and four BAFTA awards for Best Sporting Programme. As a driver, Martin has won the BRDC’s Gold Star, Silver Star and Gold Medal, the Segrave Trophy and Guild of Motoring Writers Driver of the Year. In 2025 Martin was awarded an OBE for services to motorsport and sports broadcasting. Martin has also served as Chairman of the British Racing Drivers’ Club and the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association.
