The days before the British Grand Prix always carry a sense of anticipation - This year was no different.
Fresh from England's World Cup victory over DR Congo, guests gathered at the George Members Club in Mayfair last Wednesday for an exclusive evening with some of F1’s most influential voices.
As conversations about football gave way to Formula 1, members settled into the club's intimate bar setting for a panel discussion featuring Claire Williams, Damon Hill and David Coulthard. Hosted by Nicola Hume, who kept the discussion flowing, striking the perfect balance between humour and thoughtful reflection.
With Silverstone just days away, the timing couldn't have been better. The conversation moved effortlessly between history, competition and the realities of life at the pinnacle of motorsport.
Claire Williams offered the thoughtful insider's view, drawing on her experience leading one of Formula 1's most iconic teams and reflecting on the legacy of her father, Sir Frank Williams. Damon Hill brought the perspective of a World Champion, offering measured reflections on competition and life after racing. David Coulthard's natural storytelling and humour kept the room entertained throughout, effortlessly shifting between laughter and serious discussion.

Revisiting one of Formula 1's greatest eras
One of the evening's highlights came as the conversation explored the history of Williams Racing during its most successful years. Hearing Claire Williams reflect on the team's heritage alongside Damon Hill, who delivered the team's 1996 Drivers' Championship, and DC, who raced for Williams during the same era, offered guests a rare opportunity to hear multiple perspectives on one of the teams most defining periods.

Perhaps the most stand-out audience question centred on one of F1's most controversial moments. Five years on from the dramatic 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, one guest admitted the outcome still haunted him as a fan.
Rather than revisiting the incident itself, the panel reflected on the wider themes it raised: sportsmanship, ethics and the mindset required to compete at the very highest level. Lewis Hamilton's decision to congratulate Max Verstappen despite the circumstances became a focal point for a thoughtful discussion about professionalism under immense pressure and the relentless drive that defines elite athletes.
The joy of becoming a fan again
Another topic of the evening explored how life changes after stepping away from competition.
With the three panellists preparing for another British Grand Prix weekend in front of the cameras for Channel 4 and the BBC, alongside multiple ambassadorial and hospitality appearances. The conversation turned to rediscovering Formula 1 from a different perspective. No longer racing or running a team, they each spoke about returning to the sport as fans themselves while using their experience to help millions of viewers connect with and understand what is happening within the wider sport.

Three speakers from brought complementary perspectives that naturally challenged, reinforced and expanded upon one another's stories.
